Accommodations: St. Marys, 17 miles from Benezette, has a Best Western (1002 Earth Road, 814-834-0000, $56 to $70 a night), a Comfort Inn (195 Comfort Lane, 814-834-2030, $63 to $82 a night) and The Towne House Inn (138 Center St., 814-781-1556, nightly rates starting at $53), an early 1900s Victorian mansion converted to an inn and restaurant.
Other attractions: Besides elk, the area affords visitors the chance to see other wildlife and beautiful mountain scenery. Visitors can also hike, camp, snowmobile, ride horses, hunt and fish.
