BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Poland improves to 16-2 with victory



Coppola scored 28 points to lead 58-44 win over Chaney.
POLAND -- Lou Coppola scored 28 points to lead Poland High School to a 58-44 victory over Chaney in a non-conference boys basketball game Friday night.
Jim Shurilla added 11 points for the Bulldogs (16-2), who led 28-19 at halftime. Luke Blangero had 13 rebounds for Poland.
Kory Jackson scored 17 points for Chaney (3-15) and Jeremy Tomlin added 15.
Benedictine 79, Rayen 64
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bradford Howell scored 17 points for Cleveland Benedictine in a non-conference game.
Kyle McKee added 16 points for the Bengals (7-9), who led 38-33 at halftime. Brandon Woods had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Mike Stircula had four assists.
Rayen (8-10) was led by Dominic Crosby, with 18 points and seven assists. Maurice Clark added 17 points, while Deon Elliott had 13 points and six assists.
Niles 67, Howland 59
HOWLAND -- Bill Frech and Andrew Cleary scored 20 points each for Niles in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Joe Razzano added 13 points for the Red Dragons (9-10, 5-7), who led 34-29 at halftime.
Howland (4-14, 1-11) was led by David Kennedy's 17 points and 15 from Dario Hadzovic.
Salem 55, Struthers 53
STRUTHERS -- Tyler Pierce scored 24 points for Salem, which rallied from a 10-point deficit in a MAC game.
The Quakers (8-10, 6-6) trailed 40-30 after three periods.
Tommy Jesko and Jarin Heath added 13 points each for Salem.
Struthers (5-13, 2-10) was led by Mike Duponty with 15 points. Jim Sodeman added 11.
Carrollton 67, West Branch 58
CARROLLTON -- Matt Spears scored 14 points for Carrollton in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Corey Leggett and Scott Sevek added 13 apiece for Carrollton, which led 49-30 entering the final quarter.
Shane Young had 12 points for West Branch (6-12), while Jared Hoffman scored 11. Brandon McMillan had 10 assists for West Branch, which got to four points in the final minute but no closer.
Youngstown Christian 68, Ledgemont 41
THOMPSON -- Dominic Vitullo scored 18 points to lead Youngstown Christian in an East Suburban Conference game.
Vitullo also had nine rebounds for the Eagles (10-9, 6-3). Kory Cooper added 14 points, while Aaron Agresta added 13 and Stephen Setnick scored 10. Agresta and Anthony LaGamba had three assists each and Cooper had four steals.
Jason O'Donnell and Jeff Burdorff scored 10 points each for Ledgemont.
