CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Luther Head scored 26 points and Dee Brown hit two 3-pointers down the stretch to seal top-ranked and unbeaten Illinois' victory. The Illini tied a school record with their 25th consecutive win and it was Illinois' 19th straight win at home. Brown, who played in foul trouble most of the game, hit the first big 3-pointer with 3:10 to go. He hit the second with 1:43 remaining to give the Illini a 62-51 lead. Alando Tucker scored 24 points for the Badgers (16-6, 7-4).
Michigan St. 64, Michigan 49
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Alan Anderson scored 16 points and Shannon Brown had eight of his 14 in the opening minutes to help No. 13 Michigan State earn a big lead it maintained easily. The Spartans (17-4, 8-2 Big Ten) have won 14 of their last 16 games and have lost only one of the previous 13 matchups against the Wolverines. Michigan's Dion Harris scored 22 points, but none of his teammates had more than seven. The reeling Wolverines (12-13, 3-8) have lost eight straight, their longest losing streak since dropping 11 in a row during the 1981-82 season. Michigan's student section, the Maize Rage, seemed to motivate Brown before the game when he read its newsletter. The comment next to Brown's name was, "Has regressed from scoring six points to four to two in three matchups against Michigan." Brown scored on a driving layup on the first possession and followed up with a dunk off a steal, a jumper and another layup to give the Spartans a 14-7 lead 5:06 into the game. Michigan State was ahead by as many as 11 in the first half and led 30-20 at halftime. Brown's jumper midway through the second half gave the Spartans an 18-point lead. Michigan rallied to pull within eight with just under 3 minutes left, but the Spartans crushed its comeback hopes with a 10-0 run. Michigan State reserve Chris Hill scored 11 points and Paul Davis had 10. The Wolverines were without standout point guard Daniel Horton, who is indefinitely suspended, for a sixth straight game. Horton's preliminary hearing on a charge of domestic violence is Monday.
Indiana 71, Minnesota 56
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A.J. Ratliff and Pat Ewing Jr. each scored 15 points and Robert Vaden added 14 as Indiana overcame the absence of leading scorer Bracey Wright to beat Minnesota. Indiana (11-10, 6-4) won for just the second time in five games and moved into fourth place in the Big Ten. Minnesota (16-8, 6-5) lost its second straight despite being led by Vincent Grier with 21 points. Jeff Hagen finished with 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
