Committee approves 20 Federal Place sign

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Design Review Committee has approved the concept of the color and style of the new signs to be placed at the former Phar-Mor Centre building downtown.
Claire Maluso, with the city Office of Economic Development, who focuses on projects related to beautifying the downtown central business district, showed the committee a design Wednesday that would replace the orange Phar-Mor Centre names on the front and sides of the seven-story structure with the building's new name in green, white and gold.
The building now is called 20 Federal Place and is located at 20 W. Federal St.
Maluso said the colors reflect those found in the city's official flag, which also will be placed on the building along with the American flag.
The embossed letters with green and neon lighting will be a prominent feature, she said.
Cost figures and other features affiliated with the signage are still being worked on, Maluso said. The design was put together by Jenkins Sign Co. on Mahoning Avenue.
The committee deferred taking action on the signage package for the Youngstown Convocation Center and also sent a sign plan back to the owner of a pizza shop on Lincoln Avenue for revisions.
