Caruso, wife call it quits
LOS ANGELES -- "CSI: Miami" star David Caruso and his wife are splitting after eight years of marriage. Margaret Caruso filed for divorce from Caruso, 49, citing irreconcilable differences, according to a petition filed Feb. 2 in Superior Court. The couple, who married May 4, 1996, have no children. Caruso, who came to public attention on "NYPD Blue," now plays police Lt. Horatio Caine on CBS' "CSI: Miami."
Fragrant deal for Parker
NEW YORK -- Sarah Jessica Parker is putting the sweet smell of her success in a bottle. Parker, who starred in HBO's hit "Sex and the City," has signed a deal with Coty Inc. to develop a line of fragrances, the company announced Tuesday. The brand name and the exact perfume scent are still works in progress, but Parker said the first perfume will be "fresh." "It'll be intentionally quiet, not a very aggressive scent," Parker told The Associated Press. "It's not a scent you'll smell before a person walks in a room. I don't want it to not have social skills!" Parker said she'd been hesitant about launching a perfume because she didn't want her fans to think she was just selling her name to a product. She went ahead, though, hoping people would remember her work ethic and integrity. "This is a part of my life I want to share with others. ... I really, really thought about it. I've been invited into women's lives and I take that seriously," said Parker, 39, who described her relationship with Coty as a true collaboration. The fragrance should be in stores this fall.
Noth to be 'L & amp;O' regular
LOS ANGELES -- Chris Noth's guest appearance this weekend on "Law & amp; Order: Criminal Intent" is the start of something big. Noth, who left the original "Law & amp; Order" 10 years ago, will become a regular on the spinoff beginning next season, series spokeswoman Pam Ruben Golum said Tuesday. He will split duties with current series lead Vincent D'Onofrio, who's continuing as police Detective Robert Goren. Each actor will appear in 11 episodes for the fifth season. The NBC series airs at 9 p.m. EST Sunday. Noth's casting will ease the work load for D'Onofrio, who was hospitalized briefly last year for exhaustion. "The hardest job in show business is being a single lead on an hour drama series," said "Law & amp; Order" creator and executive producer Dick Wolf. "Vincent has done an unbelievable job for the last four seasons, but after 31/2 years, the grueling pace finally took its toll." He called Noth's addition to the show an "ideal solution."
T-shirt line for Moore
NEW YORK -- T-shirts. Everyone's got them, but no one has enough. Pop star Mandy Moore created her own line and label, Mblem, so that she could have an unlimited supply of "functional, casual and sexy" T's. "It all evolved from the fact that I'm totally the jeans and T-shirt girl. If I can get away with wearing jeans and a T-shirt somewhere, I'll do it," Moore told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "Getting dressed up is fun but I'm really just a lazy bum and that's the extent of the wardrobe in my mind," she said. For Moore, whose screen credits include "The Princess Diaries" and "Chasing Liberty," fit comes first. "I'm a tall girl [5-foot-10], so I'm always searching for the perfect jeans and T-shirt," the 20-year-old singer-actress said.
Notable deaths
NEW YORK -- Steve Burgh, a record producer and musician who worked with Billy Joel, the Ramones, Phoebe Snow and others, died of a heart attack Monday at his home in Kingston, said his lawyer, Leslie Berman. He was 54. Burgh was a talented sideman and producer who played with a number of artists in the 1970s and 80s, including Willie Nelson, Judy Collins and Steve Goodman. He was a guitarist on Joel's 1976 album "The Stranger," including the Grammy-winning song "Just the Way You Are." He was also the musical director for Gladys Knight, Richie Havens and others.
SAN FRANCISCO -- Keith Knudsen, the longtime Doobie Brothers drummer who played with the band on a string of hits including "Taking It to the Streets" and "Black Water," died of pneumonia Tuesday. He was 56.
