YOUNGSTOWN -- as part of the Overtime Program, the Youngstown State football team will make a variety of appearances throughout the community.
The Penguins' first appearances are today when they visit the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown and Heart Reach Ministries.
On Saturday, six student-athletes will take part in the American Heart Association Ball -- offensive tackle John Bartos, tight end Nick Forro, quarterback Aaron Marshall, offensive guard Josh Tanner and offensive guard Pat Walker will help at the event at the Holiday Inn Metroplex.
On Feb. 16, student-athletes are helping at the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission and at Lincoln Place Residential Centers. On Feb. 23, selected individuals will be at Heart Reach Ministries.
The busiest day of the spring will be on March 2 when the Penguins are set to appear at four locations -- the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission, Leonard Kurtz School, Fairhaven School and the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown.
The Overtime Program was created to help YSU football student-athletes give back to the Mahoning Valley community. In its fourth year of existence, strength and conditioning coach Todd Burkey works to coordinate student-athlete visits.

Westminsternames coach
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Scott Renninger, a 28-year veteran on the Westminster College coaching staff, has been named head coach of the women's tennis program.
He replaces S. Kipley Haas, who is retiring.
Renninger is 38-49 in five seasons as the men's tennis coach.
Pirates on TV
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates announced their television broadcast schedule for the 2005 season.
FOX Sports Net Pittsburgh will broadcast 120 regular season games, including 54 home dates and 66 road dates, beginning with the season opener against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 4 at 1:35 p.m.

CLEVELAND -- Mid-American Conference presidents have approved the return of Bowling Green to the league's East Division in all sports effective this fall.
Tuesday's announcement shifts the Falcons back to the division where they competed from the time divisional play began in 1997 until 2002. Bowling Green moved to the West to accommodate MAC football member Central Florida, which is leaving to join Conference USA this fall.
The Falcons will compete with Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio in the East. Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan will comprise the league's West Division.

WNBA adds Chicago
CHICAGO -- The WNBA awarded an expansion team to Chicago on Tuesday, giving the league. The team will begin play in 2006 at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion.
The Chicago team -- its nickname will be announced later -- will be the WNBA's first new franchise since 2002. San Antonio and Connecticut began play in 2003, but each moved from a previous location.
Spadea advancesin SAP Open
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Vincent Spadea avoided an upset, recovering from a first-set loss to beat Anthony Dupuis 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 Tuesday in the first round of the SAP Open.
Spadea meets James Blake in the second round. Blake advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Wesley Moodie in a match that lasted slightly more than an hour.
Seventh-seeded Jurgen Melzer advanced with a 6-2, 7-5 win over qualifier Glenn Weiner. Melzer won 83 percent of his first-serve points in taking the first meeting between the players.
Steelers' Bettisin Pro Bowl
KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis replaced Corey Dillon on the AFC's Pro Bowl roster Tuesday.
Bettis rushed for 941 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, revitalizing his career while leading the Steelers to a 15-1 regular season record and the AFC championship game. He will join eight Pittsburgh teammates and the team's coaching staff in Honolulu for his fifth appearance in the NFL's all-star game.
Dillon's injury wasn't disclosed, but he failed a year-end physical, according to an NFL spokesman.
Pennington hassurgery on shoulder
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jets quarterback Chad Pennington had surgery Tuesday to repair a tear in his right rotator cuff, and his doctors are cautiously optimistic he will be ready for the start of training camp in July.

Maleeva struggles
PARIS -- Eighth-seeded Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria outlasted qualifier Claudine Schaul of Luxembourg 7-6 (4), 7-6 (9) Tuesday in the first round of the Open Gaz de France.
Maleeva set up a second-round match with Jelena Jankovic of the Czech Republic, who eliminated Emilie Loit of France 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
