COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Badenhop's sharp in OT for Polar Bears
Ohio Northern never trailed during overtime period with Mount Union.
ADA -- Greg Badenhop scored 10 of his 30 points in overtime to lead Ohio Northern to an 85-79 win over Mount Union on Saturday.
Badenhop made a 3-pointer and went 6-for-7 at the foul line in OT. He scored the first two points of overtime at the line to break a 63-all tie and put the Polar Bears (12-9, 9-5 Ohio Conference) ahead to stay.
The Purple Raiders (10-11, 6-8) sent the game to overtime tied at 63 on Kyle Karpinski's two free throws with 21 seconds left in regulation.
Chris Blakely led Mount Union with 19 points.
Karpinski finished with 16, Brett Hershberger had 13 and Josh Long added 12.
Phil Hoying had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Ohio Northern. Charlie Kelly and Ryan Lee scored 10 apiece.
Denison 88, Allegheny 75
GRANVILLE -- Dan Hodgkinson scored 24 points to lead six Denison players in double figures.
Hodgkinson made 9 of 14 shots as the Big Red (10-10, 7-5 North Coast Conference) shot 52 percent to 42 percent for the Gators (8-12, 5-7). He also had seven rebounds and five assists.
Robb Hern made all five of his shots and scored 14 points for Denison.
Dan Izzo also scored 14.
Matt Maizlik and Casey McCloskey scored 20 points apiece to lead Allegheny.
Justin Schmitt added 14 points.
Bethany 78, Thiel 72
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Bethany made 18 of 21 free throws, including 11-of-13 in the second half, to hold off Thiel in a men's Presidents' Athletic Conference game.
Bethany (18-3, 5-1 PAC) trailed 40-37 early in the second half before going on a 15-2 run. Jim Deep's 3-pointer with 11:27 remaining gave the Bison a 52-42 lead. Thiel rallied to within two, 74-72, in the final half-minute, but Matt Drahos made four consecutive free throws to keep Bethany ahead.
Drahos finished with 29 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Bison. Deep finished with 15 points and James Wallace scored 10.
Joe Herrmann led Thiel (4-17, 0-6) with 23 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Ross Watson added 18 points, while Daryl Moore had 14 points.
Wittenberg 106, Hiram 60
SPRINGFIELD -- Andy Bucheit scored 18 of his 20 points on 3-point shots and Wittenberg made 60 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc.
Wittenberg (19-2, 11-1 North Coast Conference) made 21 of 35 3-point shots to just 9-of-23 for Hiram (3-18, 2-10).
Wittenberg made 61 percent of its shots overall to 36 percent for the Terriers.
Kenny Brady scored 16 points and Billy Bowen added 11 for Wittenberg, which never trailed.
T.C. Spencer led Hiram with 19 points.
Allen Kirkpatrick scored 11 and Chuck Williams added 10.
Women
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Daemen College rallied in the final three minutes to defeat Geneva, 52-46.
Allyson Clarke had 14 points and eight rebounds for Geneva (10-11, 5-6 AMC North). Jen Rawding added 12 points.
Daemen (22-4, 12-1) got 10 points from Joanna Daugenti and Timyra Hudson.
Bethany 78, Thiel 75
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Nikki Babik scored 24 points to lead Bethany.
Courtney Irwin added 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bison (8-12, 3-3 PAC).
Jenny Place scored 14 points and Renee Shehady had 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Thiel (5-16, 1-5) was led by Nicole Valentino, who had a season-high 21 points. Fontella Jones added 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals.
Wittenberg 84, Hiram 50
SPRINGFIELD -- Lynle Cornell led the Terriers with 14 points, making all five of her shots, including two 3-pointers.
Cassie Bedard added 13 points, while Valerie Goudy had five rebounds and three assists for the Terriers (7-14, 2-11 NCAC).
