Men
Mount St. Mary 99, Westminster 95
One night after rallying from a 15-point second-half deficit to post a win, the Titans nearly overcame an 19-point second-half deficit, but a late rally came up short at the South Padre Island (Texas) Shootout. The Blue Knights improved to 7-2 with the win, while the Titans dropped to 3-8. Westminster was paced by the one-two scoring punch of sophomore guard Craig Hannon (New Castle/Union High,) and senior guard Mark DeMonaco (New Castle/New Castle High) with 25 and 24 points, respectively. DeMonaco also dished out a team-high five assists, while Hannon and senior guard Brian Fadden (New Castle/Mohawk High) each grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Nick Adams added 10 points off the bench for Westminster in the loss, while Chauncey Whitlow (Youngstown/Wilson High) posted two blocks and three steals. The Titans open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday as Westminster hosts Thiel College at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium beginning at 8 p.m.
Wooster 129, Thiel 80
The Fighting Scots knocked down a school-record 20 three-pointers in the consolation game of the 43rd annual E.M. "Mose" Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic. Wooster (10-1) had seven players finish in double figures, led by Brandon Johnson's 21 points. Tom Port added 18 and 10 rebounds while James Cooper and Devin Fulk added 15 each. Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann paced the Tomcats (2-9) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Senior forward Damien Williams added 15 points and five rebounds while junior forward Geno Bianco chipped in with 14. Thiel will return to action on Wednesday when the Tomcats travel to Westminster College to open PAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Women
Anderson 91, Thiel 51
The Tomcats lost the consolation game of Otterbein College's Smokey Ballenger "O" Club Classic in Westerville. Anderson (7-4) had four players finish in double figures, led by Jessica Hamman's 16-point, eight-rebound effort. Lauren Vail added 15 points and four assists while Chelsie Haines and Stacie Jennings added 14 and 11, respectively. Thiel (2-10) got 13 points and five rebounds from junior forward Nicole Valentino (Sharon/Sharon High) while freshman forward Amber Bodrick (Boardman/Mooney High) added 12 points and five boards. The Tomcats will return to action on Wednesday when they open their PAC schedule, taking on Westminster College in New Wilmington at 6 p.m.
Bethany 66, Heidelberg 63
Bethany freshman Mandi Swiger scored the game's final six points to cap a career night as the Bison (4-7) rallied. Bethany will take the floor for the first time in 2006 on Tuesday when the team travels to Capital University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
