Suspect in gift theft awaits hearing in jail

BROOKFIELD -- A Warren man charged with stealing gifts from a Vernon home on Christmas Eve remains in Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, pending a 9 a.m. Tuesday preliminary hearing in Trumbull County Eastern District Court.
Judge Ronald J. Rice set the bond Thursday when Ron Peters, 38, of Idylwild Street, Warren, made his initial court appearance on the complicity to burglary charge.
Peters is charged with breaking into the state Route 7 home of Barbara Soles while she was at work and stealing presents under the Christmas tree and in the basement.
Warren police went to Peters' residence on Christmas Day in reference to a disturbance call and became suspicious when they saw the newly bought merchandise. Police took Soles to Peters' residence, where she identified some of the goods as stolen from her home.
