Officer treated for head injury

WARREN -- A city police officer was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital after being knocked unconscious early Thursday, when he struck his head on a sidewalk in a struggle with a domestic violence suspect.
Patrolman Brian Martinek was treated at the hospital after the 12:43 a.m. confrontation.
Rufus A. Hart, 47, of 1625 Dodge Street N.W., where the encounter occurred, is charged with domestic violence and assault on a peace officer.
Hart's wife, Rose, told police she called 911 after her husband came home highly intoxicated and began smashing up the residence and yelling and screaming at the children.
Police said Hart seemed very angry when they found him in the driveway holding a knife and his cellular phone. When police tried to secure him, he became violent and turned his anger on the officers, police said.
As police tried to gain control of him, Hart knocked Martinek off balance, and both men fell to the ground, with Hart landing on top of Martinek and Martinek hitting his head on the sidewalk, police said. Other officers subdued and arrested Hart, who was taken to the county jail.
