JFS supervisor faces suspension

YOUNGSTOWN -- A female supervisor in Mahoning County's Department of Job & amp; Family Services Child Support Division faces a 30-day suspension for her role in a physical confrontation with an employee.
Mahoning County commissioners approved the suspension at their Thursday meeting. James Petraglia, the county's human resources director, said the suspension begins in January.
Petraglia would not provide the name of the supervisor because of possible pending litigation, he said.
The altercation occurred June 27, Petraglia said. The employee (another unidentified woman) has been discharged. The employee and the supervisor are represented by unions, which have filed grievances on behalf of both women, he said.
Petraglia said he intends to administer discipline as called for in employees' collective bargaining agreements.
In the past, "things happened in the workplace but nothing was done," he said. "People will be held to a higher standard."
