Howland captures title



The Tigers beat Brookfield 47-31 in the championship game.
BROOKFIELD --Ellie Shields scored 21 points, including six in the final period, and added 10 rebounds to lead the Howland High girls basketball team past Brookfield 47-31 in Thursday's championship game of the Brookfield Tournament.
Howland (8-1) sealed the win with a 13-4 scoring advantage in the final quarter.
Kelly Jones scored nine points to lead Brookfield (6-2).
Yo. Christian 69, Chaney 52
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sophomore point guard Kara Cooper scored 25 points to lead Youngstown Christian.
Rachel Coristin added 16 points, while senior Danielle Pecchia had 11 for the Eagles (5-1), whose press forced more than 30 steals. Pecchia also had 13 steals and seven of her team's 31 rebounds.
For Chaney (2-4), junior Jamie Soos had 13 points, senior Kayla May tacked on 11 and freshman Brittany Cobb had 10 points.
Youngstown Christian kept 10-point leads at halftime and through three quarters before extending the spread in the final frame.
Lisbon 71, Western Reserve 40
BERLIN CENTER -- Caitlin Glenn scored 21 points, including five 3-point goals, while Erica Sims added 20 points to pace Lisbon (8-0). Lainey Kekic had 13 points to lead Western Reserve (3-4) while Alex Rathburn had nine rebounds and seven points.
Late WednesdaySharon 71, Warren JFK 25
SHARON -- Janine McDonald had 19 and Brittany Csatlos added 17 points as Sharon (9-1) won its sixth straight. Csatlos, a 5-7 junior guard, also had 10 steals, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Tigers, who held a 40-20 rebounding edge. Michelle Chaves had 10 points for JFK, which was outscored 40-14 in the first half.
Brookfield 44, Reynolds 42
BROOKFIELD -- Morgan Bonekovic had a triple-double to lead Brookfield past Reynolds in the Warriors Holiday Tournament. Bonekovic had 30 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the Warriors (7-1)
