2 face possible charges in animal abuse

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Pickaway County prosecutors will consider charges against the two occupants of a house deemed uninhabitable by health officials after more that 50 animals had been kept there.
The county's Humane Society also found 11 live horses and the skeletal remains of at least 15 more on the property, just south of Orient, about 15 miles south of Columbus.
County Humane Officer Linda Hayden said neighbors had been complaining about conditions at the home for more than a year.
County Environmental Health Director Dallas Hettinger said workers armed with a warrant last week found general unsanitary conditions in the home.
The animals, including 32 dogs, 10 rabbits, 10 cats and a bird, were kept in dirty cages.
The health department ordered that nobody live in the house.
The Humane Society found homes for the horses and some of the dogs and was working with local rescue groups to find homes for the other animals, since there is no county shelter to house them.
