Historical preservation in Newton Falls

Employees of Becdir Construction of Youngstown work on renovations to the Newton Falls Covered Bridge. Flooring, roof and timbers are begin replaced. At right is a close-up of the traditional wooden pegs being used for the restoration. The covered bridge, the last one surviving in Trumbull County, was built over the east branch of the Mahoning River around 1831. It is considered the second-oldest covered bridge in existence in Ohio, and the oldest covered bridge in use on its original site. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
