Redskins: Quarterback Mark Brunell had his sprained right knee examined Monday and said he was "day-to-day" for next week's game against the Eagles. "I had an MRI today," Brunell said. "It feels better than it did on Saturday and I think each day I'll improve a little bit more." Brunell was injured when he was sacked in the third quarter of Saturday's 35-20 victory over the New York Giants. Patrick Ramsey finished the game and will start against the Eagles if Brunell can't play. A victory at Philadelphia would give the Redskins their first playoff berth in six years.
Giants: The New York Giants shored up their injury-depleted linebacking corps by signing Kevin Lewis, whom they cut last September after he started all 16 games last season. The Giants, who have clinched a playoff spot, can wrap up the NFC East with a victory in Oakland on Saturday night. But they have been beset by injuries at linebacker the past few weeks, beginning with Antonio Pierce, the middle linebacker and heart of the defense. Lewis was second on the team last season with 88 tackles, including one sack. The Giants (10-5) already had signed 37-year-old Roman Phifer, a 15-year veteran, who played briefly in the Washington game. They had also worked out 35-year-old Jessie Armstead, who made the Pro Bowl five times with the Giants and was one of the stars of their 2000 Super Bowl team but had not played since 2003 with Washington.
