HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY Martha Cook



Born: Dec. 30, 1905, in Cambus, Lang, Scotland; moved to Canada at the age of 17 at the urging of an older sister.
Parents: Daniel and Helen McMillan.
Married: a Scotsman, David Cook, in 1926; he died in 1964.
Address: She lived in Niles, Girard and Warren, and 10 years ago moved to Mulberry, Fla.
Children: Norma Chittock of Mulberry, with whom she makes her home; Rhea Gilmour of Niles; Eleanor Daum and David Cook, both of Howland; and Kathy Battles of St. Louis.
Family includes: 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Siblings: There were 10 children in her family. A sister, Margaret Leighton of McDonald, is 101.
Employment: When a young girl in Scotland, she worked in a chocolate factory and a woolen factory. In Canada she was employed in domestic service.
Activities: Gets up and completely dresses each day, reads the Bible, then resumes her "work" -- she knits a pair of slippers or baby booties each day and gives them away. A few years ago she knit 120 pairs of slippers, which were snt to a children's home.
Celebration: Friends and family members are invited to a party to be held in her honor from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 26 E. Church St., Niles.
