NORTHEAST OHIO Teen driver faces 10 felony counts

The girl's car crossed two lanes of traffic, went over a curb and into the restaurant.
CANTON (AP) -- A 16-year-old girl who lost control of a car and drove through the glass front of a restaurant faces 10 juvenile felony counts of vehicular assault -- one for each person hospitalized.
Stephanie Hanthorn of Massillon was charged Friday. In addition to the juvenile felony charges, she was charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of negligent assault and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle.
Hanthorn was driving her mother's Honda Accord on Dec. 2 when she crashed it into Bistro 77 after crossing two lanes of traffic and running over a curb, police said. A State Highway Patrol report said Hanthorn was driving at speeds faster than 60 mph.
Drugs or alcohol were not involved, said Stark County Juvenile Prosecutor Michelle Cordova.
Some people injured in the crash broke legs, hips and ribs. One of the victims remains in the intensive care unit at a local hospital.
Cordova said each vehicular assault charge carries a six-month sentence in the Ohio Department of Youth Services.
If convicted, a judge will have discretion in sentencing, Cordova said. A jail sentence in a case like this isn't common, she said.
Hanthorn will not be arrested, Cordova said. The girl is scheduled to appear in court in several weeks.
