United rolls to 61-47 win behind Shaffer, Harrison



Leetonia, Mineral Ridge coast to easy non-conference victories.
HANOVERTON -- Dan Shaffer scored 18 points and Chris Harrison added 16, as United High defeated Western Reserve, 61-47, in a boys non-conference basketball game Tuesday night.
Brandon Kekel added seven rebounds for the Eagles (2-3), who took a 19-14 lead after one quarter and sealed the victory by outscoring the Blue Devils 16-7 in the fourth period.
Western Reserve (4-1) was led by Joe Petro, with 14 points, and Chris Tofilski, with 11.
Leetonia 95, Jackson-Milton 40
LEETONIA -- Jon Williams had a game-high 21 points, 11 rebounds and four steals as Leetonia evened its season record at 3-3.
Four other Bears reached double figures including Kaid Todd with 16, Aaron Valentine with 13 and Josh Felway with 11, while Andy Kisner added 10 points and eight assists.
Jackson-Milton (0-5) was led by Nick MacLarren with 15 points.
Mineral Ridge 71, Columbiana 46
MINERAL RIDGE -- Micah Hall tossed in 14 points and Vance Keirsey added 12 as Mineral Ridge remained unbeaten through five games.
The Rams jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead and never were threatened.
Columbiana (1-4) was led by Morgan Hart with 16 points.
Lowellville 56, Yo. Christian 40
LOWELLVILLE -- Mario Nero connected on five 3-pointers for 15 points to lead the Rockets (3-1).
Rocky Nolfi added 14 points and 15 rebounds and Ed Barone was in with 12 points for the Rockets.
Youngstown Christian fell behind 30-15 at the break and trailed by 21 points (47-27) entering the final eight minutes.
Lisbon 54, South Range 44
NORTH LIMA -- Marcus Judy scored 23 points and Tim McClester bolstered the attack with 13 points for Lisbon (2-4).
Steve Whitfield had 17 points and Josh Less scored 12 more for the Raiders (0-3).
Lisbon won the game at the foul line, hitting on 21 of 33 tries. The Raiders, who fired in nine 3-pointers, were just 3-for-8 at the foul line.
Each team made 16 baskets.
Southern 56,E. Liverpool Christian 38
SALINEVILLE -- Dan DeSellum scored 15 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Southern.
Aaron Boston added 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the winners.
Rob McCoy tossed in nine points to lead East Liverpool Christian.
