Officials urge caution on Pa. highways

HARRISBURG -- State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller has advised motorists to drive safely and give themselves plenty of time when traveling during the upcoming holidays along Pennsylvania's highways.
Miller said state troopers patrolling highways will be watching for speeders, aggressive drivers and drunken drivers during the Christmas and New Year's holiday driving periods.
The Christmas period runs from Friday through Christmas Day. The official New Year's driving period is Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.
During the three-day Christmas 2004 driving period, nine people were killed and 206 were injured in 584 crashes investigated by the state police. During last year's New Year's three-day driving period, four people died and 185 were injured in 467 crashes to which troopers responded.
