Eaton's foul shots give Titans win over LaRoche
She made two after time had expired to give Westminster a 42-41 victory.
PITTSBURGH -- Junior guard Rachel Eaton was fouled and made the second of two free throws with time expired, breaking a 41-41 tie and lifting the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 42-41 non-conference win over LaRoche College on Monday.
Junior guard Desiree Sterling, a Newton Falls High graduate, posted game-highs in points (15) and rebounds (eight), while sophomore guard Allison Ginnetti had three steals for the Titans (1-8).
Ti'La Hardeman scored a team-high 13 points for the Redhawks (1-6).
The teams were tied 10-10 midway through the opening half when La Roche put together a 13-5 run to take an eight-point advantage (23-15) with 3:45 to play in the period. The game was tied 39-39 in the closing minutes when Eaton hit a layup to put Westminster on top 41-39 with 1:14 left. La Roche tied the game on a layup by Hardeman with five seconds left.
Men
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Erroll Robinson scored a game-high 25 points but Slippery Rock couldn't overcome a 46-33 halftime deficit in an 81-70 loss to Ashland.
Jamar Scales added 14 points and Dejan Jancic had 10 rebounds for The Rock (1-7).
Greg Emmons scored 18 points for Ashland (7-3), while Justin Brown added 14 points and nine rebounds.
