DURHAM, N.C. -- J.J. Redick scored 30 points and Greg Paulus set a school freshman record with 15 assists as No. 1 Duke shook off a subpar defensive first half to beat Valparaiso 104-77 on Sunday night.
Shelden Williams added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who improved to 10-0 for the fifth time in six seasons, while Lee Melchionni scored 18 points.
Paulus broke the freshman record of 13 assists shared by Bobby Hurley, Jason Williams and Chris Duhon. He came within an assist of tying the school record owned by Hurley, who finished his career as the nation's career assists leader.
Dan Oppland scored 25 points to lead the Crusaders (4-3), who tried to hang around after falling behind by double digits early but never seriously threatened.
No. 2 Connecticut 86,New Hampshire 44
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Rudy Gay had 22 points and No. 2 Connecticut dominated overmatched New Hampshire.
Marcus Johnson, making his first start for an injured Denham Brown (bruised knee), had a career-high 20 points for the Huskies (8-0).
Blagoj Janev led the Wildcats (2-8) with 24 points. His back-to-back baskets with 13:49 left in the game were the Wildcats' first consecutive scores.
Ed Nelson had 11 rebounds and 12 points, mostly on putbacks, for the Huskies, who outrebounded the Wildcats 45-27 and outscored them 40-10 in the paint.
No. 7 Florida 101, Jacksonville 58
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Corey Brewer had the first triple-double in Florida history and the Gators matched the school's best start.
Brewer, a 6-foot-8 sophomore swingman, finished with 15 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds as the Gators (10-0) matched the 1951-52 team's start. Joakim Noah scored a career-high 21 points for the Gators, who can get to 11-0 for the first time by winning at Miami on Dec. 22.
Aubrey Conerly had 13 points for Jacksonville (1-6).
No. 9 Illinois 61, Coppin St. 42
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- James Augustine scored 15 points and unbeaten Illinois broke the game open with an 18-4 run in the second half.
Augustine's three-point play started the run after Coppin State had closed within 29-22 with 15:17 to go. He had a layup and another three-point play as the Illini (11-0) pushed their lead to 50-28 with 7:25 left.
Darryl Proctor scored 14 points for the Eagles (0-8).
Augustine had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The 42 points were a season low by an Illinois opponent and the fewest the Illini have allowed since an 80-37 defeat of Penn State on Jan. 21, 2004.
No. 12 Michigan St. 85,Florida International 58
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Shannon Brown scored 20 points and two of his Michigan State teammates had double-doubles.
Maurice Ager had 18 points, all but two in the second half, and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Spartans (9-2), while Paul Davis added 18 points and 11 rebounds in Michigan State's eighth straight win.
Elvis Lora had 12 points for Florida International (3-5), which was 11-for-22 from 3-point range but scored only seven baskets inside the arc.
Michigan State used a 25-3 run to take a 44-19 halftime lead. Davis had 16 points and eight rebounds in the game's first 15 minutes.
No. 13 Boston College 80,Texas Southern 53
BOSTON -- Jared Dudley had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Marshall scored a season-high 19 points as Boston College ended a two-game losing streak.
The Eagles (7-2) built a 31-point lead before clearing the bench with 2:58 left.
Jacques Jones had 18 points and nine rebounds for Texas Southern (2-8), which lost for the eighth time in nine games.
No. 21 N.C. State 81, Miami 69
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Cameron Bennerman had a season-high 19 points for North Carolina State in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both.
Tony Bethel scored 12 of his 15 points on four 3-pointers in the opening 7 minutes for the Wolfpack (8-1), Ilian Evtimov had all 11 of his points after halftime and Cedric Simmons finished with eight points, nine rebounds and seven blocks.
