24 toy soldiers represent various elements of area
WARREN -- A new brigade of toy soldiers is watching over visitors to Courthouse Square in the city's downtown this Christmas season.
The toy soldiers, under the command of "Gen. Cobalt Perkins," adorn lampposts around the square. The plywood soldiers, sponsored by the Warren Redevelopment and Planning Corp., are each painted differently in a multitude of colors.
The 24 soldiers, each about 5 feet tall and facing the sidewalk, were designed by a computer-assisted design class and cut by a carpentry class at the Trumbull Career & amp; Technical Center. Twelve were painted by an interior design class at TCTC, and the other 12 were painted by the Trumbull Art Gallery and various local artists.
"It's part of a much larger decorating scheme for the Courthouse Square," said Anthony A. Iannucci Jr., WRAP director. New elements will be added to the holiday decorating scheme each year, he added.
The general's name combines the old -- the Perkins family name in downtown Warren -- with the new Cobalt being made at GM Lordstown.
