HIRAM -- Making 29 of 36 free throws was a contributing factor in Hiram's 90-79 victory over Thiel, which was only 7-of-9 at the free throw line.
The Tomcats were whistled for 27 fouls to Hiram's 12.
The Terriers (2-5) had five players in double figures, led by A.J. White's 19. T.C. Spencer made six of six free throws, while White sank five of six.
Joe Herrmann had 21 points and Ross Watson 20 to lead Thiel (2-7). Herrmann also had 10 of his team's 27 rebounds.
Mercyhurst 75, Slippery Rock 43
ERIE, Pa. -- The Lakers ran off 15 unanswered points in just more than five minutes to take an 18-7 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half.
Kerry Wilkinson had 15 points, Avi Fogel 14 and Richard Field 13 for Mercyhurst, which improved to 8-2.
In a losing effort, Jamar Scales scored 14 points and Dejan Jancic grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. The loss was the fifth straight for the Rock (1-6), which will seek to end its skid on Monday against Ashland.
Women
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union made 13-of-25 goals in the first half, then cooled off to hit just 6-of-22 in the second half, in a 66-57 loss to Otterbein. Mount Union led 34-23 at halftime, but was outscored 43-23 after the intermission.
Laura Roth and Danielle Holbrook had 15 points apiece for Otterbein (7-2, 3-1 OAC). Holbrook also grabbed 14 of her team's 44 rebounds. Lauren Friedrich had a game-high 20 points for Mount Union (6-3, 2-2 OAC). Alicia Williams had nine rebounds for the Raiders.
Hiram 73, Ursuline 61
HIRAM -- Cassie Bedard had a game-high 23 points, while Abbey Gorby added 18 for the Terriers (3-3), who trailed at halftime, 29-27. Michelle Kozempa had 12 rebounds for the winners, who shot 53.1 percent (17-32) from the field in the second half after hitting just 26.8 percent (11-41) in the first 20 minutes. Lisa Piechowski and Whitney Blaskburn combined for 30 points for Ursuline (5-8).
