Elected to school board
Youngstown native Jeffrey L. Carson, 28, has been elected to the Gahanna-Jefferson School Board, in a Columbus suburb.
Carson is employed as an educational administrator in the registrar's office at Ohio State University and serves on its Classroom Readiness Committee. He also is a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard and serves as an infantry battalion intelligence officer.
He is a 1995 graduate of Lowellville High School, has a bachelor's degree in political science from OSU, a master's degree in public administration from Central Michigan University, and he intends to pursue a doctorate at OSU in public policy and management.
Carson was appointed to the school board to fill an unexpired term in September, but his military unit had been deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and he learned of his appointment while serving there.
He later won a board seat in the Nov. 8 election.
LAWYERS
Maryland State Bar Exam
Charles W. Straub III, formerly of Salem, has passed the Maryland State Bar Examination. Straub graduated from Xavier University with a bachelor's degree in international affairs. He received his juris doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, Washington, D.C.
Straub will serve as an attorney in the Office of the Chief Counsel at the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, U.S. Department of Treasury, in Washington D.C.
He is the son of Charles and Carol Straub of Salem. He and his wife, Amy, live in North Bethesda, Md.
Colorado Bar Examination
Jenny D. McClintock, a Salem High School graduate, has passed the Colorado Bar Examination. She earned an undergraduate degree in business administration at Kent State University and her juris doctor degree from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver, where she received the scholastic achievement award in trial practice.
She is working with the Boulder City Prosecutor's office in Colorado.
She is the daughter of John and Kathy Arter of Salem and Greig and Charlene McClintock of Lisbon.
Working in Youngstown
John R. Tullio, a 1998 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, has successfully passed the Ohio State Bar Exam. He received his undergraduate degree in English from John Carroll University in 2002. He graduated in May from Case Western Reserve Law School with honors in international law.
While in law school, he served as a clerk with the 7th District Court of Appeals, Youngstown, and as a clerk for the special prosecutor of the Special Court of Sierra Leone and International War Crimes Tribunal. He also clerked for Spangenberg, Shibley and Liber law firm in Cleveland.
Atty. Tullio is an associate in Youngstown with the law firm of Roth, Blair, Roberts, Strasfeld & amp; Lodge. He is the son of John and Sandy Tullio of Poland.
Bar associations member
Kevin M. Goodman, formerly of New Middletown, became a member of the Ohio State Bar Association in November. A 1995 graduate of Springfield Local, he received his bachelor of engineering degree in mechanical engineering, cum laude, from Youngstown State University in 2000 and his juris doctor degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law earlier this year.
Atty. Goodman also is a member of the Cleveland Bar Association. He is employed with the Cleveland law firm of Rankin, Hill, Porter & amp; Clark, and his practice is limited to intellectual property matters.
SCOUTS
Achieves Eagle Scout rank
Jacob Morlan of Poland has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouting's highest honor. He is a member of Troop 2, Greater Western Reserve Council, that meets at Poland United Methodist Church. His scoutmaster is Rod Emerson.
Morlan earned his Arrow of Light Award, Cub Scouting's highest honor, before joining Troop 2. He earned 32 merit badges while working to become an Eagle Scout. He also was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in September. He has served his troop as quartermaster, historian and patrol leader.
His Eagle Scout project was creating a calendar with landmarks photographed in his home town. Poetry from students in Poland schools was featured in the calendar with all profits from calendar sales donated to Poland Seminary High School Marching Band.
Other projects he undertook included a coat drive for Fish Samaritan House and a food drive at V & amp;M Star Steel for the Poland Food Pantry.
Morlan is a senior at Poland, where he is a member of the marching band. He will be attending Youngstown State University next fall. He is the son of Elaine and David Morlan.
Cub grows into Eagle
Thomas Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gayton Williams of Girard, received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor Dec. 3 at Church Hill United Methodist Church, Liberty.
He is a member of Greater Western Reserve Council, Troop 42. He became a member of Cub Pack 42 in September 1997 and a Boy Scout in March 2001.
Thomas served his troop as a scribe, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader. His Eagle service projects included cleanup around Liberty Township, clearing a trail at Joseph Badger Meadows, and creating a memorial garden at Church Hill Park.
He attends Liberty High School, where he is a member of speech and debate team, marching and concert bands, and swimming and soccer teams.
