CRESTVIEW-BEAVER LOCAL Rebels surprised by 62-34 victory

COLUMBIANA -- Crestview, behind a huge first half from Tony Amabile took a 32-8 lead over Beaver Local en route to a 62-34 victory Saturday in the Rebels' gymnasium.
Amabile, who finished with 21 points, had 15 in the second quarter as Crestview (3-1) went on an 18-0 run to lead 26-2 with 3 minutes, 52 seconds remaining in the half.
Amabile started the uprising with a 3-point basket, scored two more baskets off steals and capped the run with back-to-back 3 pointers. He was 7-of-10 from the field in the second quarter.
"We didn't have any expectations coming into the game, but I really thought it would be a lot closer. Fortunately it came out like this," said Amabile.
Beaver Local had trouble the entire first half finding the range going 1-for-10 in the first quarter and 2-for-10 in the second period.
The Beavers had committed 16 turnovers by intermission and the one bright spot for them (0-5) was a 3-point basket made by Adrian Bailey just before the halftime buzzer.
Crestview got off to a fast start with a 6-0 spurt, and as if the Rebels weren't giving the Beavers enough problems, Beaver Local found itself slipping and sliding on a wet floor which caused a 15-minute delay before being the floor was made playable again.
"These types of games really help out are morale, said Crestview coach Rick Gates. We were able to get some kids into the game that hadn't been in one this season."
Team's opinion
"Right now the kids feel they should be 4-0, but I am pleased that we are 3-1," said Gates. "After the first half we were able to work some fundamental things, like executing and boxing out."
Jared Reynolds added 10 points for the Rebels and Andy Walton pulled down six rebounds.
Ethan Russell sparked the Beavers with seven points.
