4-H offers tractor safety course

GIRARD -- The Trumbull County Ohio State University Extension 4-H program is offering a 12-week, 24-hour safety course focusing on common farm equipment accident situations.
These situations include highway safety, chain saw and lawn mower safety and more.
Upon successful completion of the entire course, participants will earn the certification to legally operate a tractor or farm machinery on any farm.
This course is open to any youths 14-16 who will be operating a tractor more than 20 horsepower. Any youths over 16 years old interested in taking the course are encouraged to enroll as well.
Youths under 14 are encouraged to participate, but they will not be able to participate in any driving or skills tests, nor will they receive certification. They can, however, participate in the content portion of the program.
The course will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday beginning Jan. 11 and ending March 29 at the Banner Farm in Girard. Course cost is $18 (add $3 postage if we need to mail the curriculum).
Anyone interested in the tractor safety program should contact the OSU Extension Office at (330) 638-6783 for a registration form.
Registration and fees are due no later than Jan. 5 to the OSU Extension Office, 520 W. Main St. Suite 1, Cortland, OH 44410. Registration and fees will not be collected at the first class.
