Ridge, Reserve remain unbeaten
Lisbon beat Leetonia in a Tri-County League game.
NORTH LIMA -- A 31-3 second quarter surge helped the Mineral Ridge High boys basketball team stay unbeaten with an 82-60 win over South Range in Friday's Inter-County League game.
The Raiders (0-2, 0-2) actually led 21-20 at the end of the first period but the Rams bolted to a 51-24 lead by halftime.
Vance Keirsey sparked the Rams (4-0, 2-0) with 28 points and Nick Diana added 14.
David Maxwell had 25 points for the Raiders and Jeff Pilcher added 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Western Reserve 71,Lowellville 67
BERLIN CENTER -- It took overtime for the Blue Devils (4-0, 2-0) to remain unbeaten.
Joe Petro scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the Blue Devils. Chris Truitt added 14 points and Chris Tofilski had 13. Jeff Zatchok had eight assists.
Mario Nero led the Rockets (2-1, 1-1) with 18 points. Ted Barone had 16 points and six rebounds, Rocky Nolfi had 14 and John Wilaj had 12.
Corey Smith pulled down 11 rebounds and Tim McClester eight.
Lisbon 40, Leetonia 33
LEETONIA -- The Blue Devils (1-3, 1-1) picked up their first victory of the season as Marcus Judy and Steve Tsilimos scored 15 and 14 points to lead the way. Judy had six assists and five steals.
Jon Williams sparked the Bears (2-2, 0-2) with 14 points.
Maplewood 52, Southington 37
CORTLAND -- The Rockets (1-2, 1-0) put the Northeastern Athletic Conference game away with a 17-8 spurt in the fourth quarter.
Royce Magdych sparked the Rockets with 20 points. Jarrett Partridge grabbed eight rebounds as Maplewood enjoyed a 41-21 rebounding advantage.
Ryan Gilanyi led the Wildcats with 12 points and Dwayne Lettie had 11.
Laurel 58, Summit Academy 53
NEW CASTLE -- Junior Corey Collins had a season-high 26 points for Laurel, which was ahead by 14 in the fourth before Summit pulled within four in the WPIAL Section 2 Class AA opener.
Collins, a 6-2 guard, also had nine rebounds.
Laurel (5-1) is coming off of a 63-32 loss to Rochester, a game in which the Spartans shot 18 percent.
Burt had 13 points for Summit Academy.
