Tondo's 20 helps McDonald stays perfect, defeat Sebring
Lowellville and South Range also are unbeaten in Inter-County League games.
SEBRING -- Ashleigh Tondo poured in 20 points Thursday as the McDonald High girls basketball team jumped out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead on the way to a 60-42 Inter-County League victory over Sebring.
The Blue Devils, who remained unbeaten through six games, got support from Amy Dolsak who added 15 points and sister Emily Dolsak who chipped in with 12.
Ashley Amabeli scored more than half of Sebring's points in the contest as she finished with a game-high 27 points including both of the team's 3-point goals.
Lowellville 55, Western Reserve 41
BERLIN CENTER -- Kristen Pallozzi scored 19 points and hit three 3-pointers to lead Lowellville.
Kaitlin McCarthy added 16 points for the Rockets (3-1, 2-0 ICL), who outscored the Blue Devils 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
Lainey Kekic had 13 points, Macy Marra had 11 and Alex Rathburn had eight points and six rebounds for Reserve (2-3, 1-1).
South Range 56, Mineral Ridge 44
NORTH LIMA -- Cindy Schuler and Annie Semko each scored 12 points to lead the Raiders (4-2, 2-0 ICL). Semko pulled down eight rebounds and Schuler had seven.
Autumn Carter scored 10 points while Kelcie Witmer made four steals.
For the Rams, Abby Kiger scored 15 points and Julie Buckner had 11.
Springfield 79, Jackson-Milton 33
NORTH JACKSON -- The Tigers (2-3, 1-1 ICL) put 10 players in the scoring column.
Springfield held a commanding 37-18 lead at intermission.
Samantha Cavalier led the Tigers' balanced attack with 19 points. Christy Warren added 14 and Chelsea Quimby finished with 10.
Cavalier pulled down 10 of her team's 43 rebounds and Quimby had five steals and six assists.
Brookfield 42, LaBrae 27
LEAVITTSBURG -- Brookfield improved to 6-0, 2-0 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference.
Morgan Bonekovic led the way with 23 points, 15 of those in the third quarter when the Warriors outscored the Vikings 18-8 and took command.
Kelly Jones added 15 points, while Bonekovic also had six rebounds.
Angelica Pugh and Jalisa Elkins each scored eight for the Vikings.
Lakeview 65, Newton Falls 49
NEWTON FALLS -- The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0 TAC) rushed out to a 24-5 lead in the first quarter and the Tigers couldn't recover.
Chelsea sparked the Bulldogs with 26 points. Emily Montgomery led the Tigers with 17.
Liberty 70, Girard 31
GIRARD -- The Leopards' (2-0) one-two punch of Michelle Dykes with 28 points and Ashley White 21 helped clobber the Indians (0-7) in the TAC contest.
Jenna Ruiz paced the Indians with eight points. Lauren Chiec and Ashley Esposito added seven apiece.
Champion 59, Hubbard 49
HUBBARD -- Champion put four players in double figures and pulled away in the final quarter against Hubbard.
The Flashes were led by Jaclyn Carpenter with 16 points while Hillary Beachy, Ashley Haas and Elizabeth Ghindia all added 12 points.
Tressa Scahill led all scorers for Hubbard with 22 points including five 3-point goals.
Chaney 38, Campbell 33
CAMPBELL -- Brittainny Cobb scored 12 points and Jamie Soos 10 for the Cowgirls (2-2).
Sophia Brown led the Red Devils (1-5) with 12 points.
Columbiana 63, Wilson 14
STRUTHERS -- Columbiana outscored Wilson 16-0 in the first quarter then rolled to an easy win in the opening night of the Struthers Holiday Tournament.
Katie Douglas led the Clippers with 15 points while Colleen Eisenbraun added 12.
Wilson was paced by Marcinde North with eight points.
Ursuline 74, Warren Harding 20
WARREN -- Ursuline senior Tyra Grant scored 30 points as the Irish took control with a 49-9 halftime lead.
Brittany Armour added 12 points for the Irish (2-3) and Danielle Crafter had six points and nine rebounds.
Kamela Bender and Jasmine Stringer each had six points for Harding (1-4).
Lisbon 73, Leetonia 36
LEETONIA -- The unbeaten Blue Devils (6-0, 2-0) took a 23-2 lead in the first quarter and put the game out of reach 56-21 by the end of the third period in a Tri-County League matchup.
Erica Sims took scoring honors for the Blue Devils with 25 points. Emily Smith added 19.
Heather Gruszecki paced the Bears (2-3, 0-2) with 10 points and five rebounds. Katie Grunick and Valerie Goerig chipped in with nine points apiece.
