Landfills are threats

Landfills are threats
EDITOR:
Girard United Against Ruinous Dumping (GUARD) has voiced its concerns at the state level in Columbus about landfills locating near our homes, businesses, schools and right in the middle of our town. But our voices have fallen on deaf ears.
Our world is experiencing global warming because of climate changes. Instead of becoming alarmed and taking steps to keep from adding to the problem, we are irresponsibly making decisions that will have long lasting effects for many generations.
Much of our country is also dealing with a slow economy and job loss. Dark clouds are looming on the horizon. The money from landfills can be very tempting as a quick fix, but end up costing more than they are worth in the long run.
Our people are facing despair because of the lack of interest of our elected officials to legislate laws that will protect their homes and families from arsenic, lead, mercury and hydrogen sulfide. Toxic fumes on a windy day can travel up to three miles from landfills.
It's not the party (Democratic or Republican), but the heart of a man or woman that will determine if they do what is right by the office that they hold. Our state Reps. Sandra Harwood and Randy Law and state Sen. Marc Dann have been helpful in this situation.

Christmas is a Christian celebration on Dec. 25 that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas literally means the Mass or celebration of Christ. Advent is the time where Christians prepare their hearts and souls for the coming of the Savior, making every effort to right the wrongs in their lives. This is what we believe. This is what we do. We live by faith. Dennis Mangan 12/15/05 , and not by sight. Our faith is what sustains us in all situations. We believe in Jesus Christ even though we haven't seen Him, but continue to believe that some day we will. On a daily basis, we thank God for giving us His Son, Jesus Christ to show us the way to eternal life. The birth of Jesus Christ is the ultimate gift to us all. Some choose not to accept that gift, and that is certainly their right.
Retail stores have instructed their employees not to say Merry Christmas out of fear of offending someone. I am offended. I am someone who believes in celebrating the birth of Jesus, the greatest gift of all.
To corporate America, like it or not, it is because of the little baby in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago that you make so much money during every Christmas season.Dennis Mangan 12/15/05 , enough to last you through the months that aren't so lucrative. Who do you thank? Your business is primarily made up of people who believe in the celebration of Christmas. Atheists will not be buying Christmas presents. Our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith will not be buying Christmas presents. Just who do you think you will offend?
Feliz Navidad. Joyeux Noel, God Jul. Celebrate Christ. Merry Christmas.

I myself have gone to church for a number of years. I am not a diehard Democrat or Republican. However when you question certain policies of the Bush administration many religious people get all bent out of shape. The man can do no wrong. Comment about the war and you get a dirty stare implying that you are unpatriotic and that it is our moral duty to always help out other nations. I support our troops in all wars, but where do you draw the line about helping the rest of the world. This war is costing thousand of lives and billions of dollars. However religious people scream that you are unpatriotic.
When Bill Clinton bombed parts of Central Europe and the Middle East in the 90s I was told by many church friends that Clinton was a sinner and strictly doing it for political purposes. Bush is strictly a moral man and can do no wrong. Yeah right.Dennis Mangan 12/15/05 I don't blame Bush totally for 9-11. I blame both the parties for 9-11. But don't put the man on such a high pedestal. They say he is fighting the terrorists in Iraq. We need the troops to fight the terrorists over here.
When you question many religious people about Bush's economic policies, also look out. He goes to church constantly and prays. That is all you need from Bush. I tried to bring up the fact that Clinton had sounder economic policies. I am given simple answers like Clinton was strictly a sinner. Religious people should be more neutral in their politics and not so one sided.
