Campbell man arrested in break-in attempt
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a Campbell man, accusing him of trying to break into a Southern Boulevard tire store.
Police responded early Thursday to an alarm of glass breaking at Paul's Tire. They found pry marks on a front window of the business and several pieces of wood molding pried off and placed on the ground.
Police also spotted a car on the east side of the railroad tracks parked on Terrace Drive, near the business. The officers could hear someone trying to start the car.
The driver, Timothy Vari, 53, Sixth Street, Campbell, didn't have a driver's license and told police he was on his way home from a friend's house when his car broke down.
Police found a screw driver in Vari's pants pocket and saw pliers and a wood chisel with a broken tip in the car.
The tools appeared to match the marks on the business window, a police report said. And fresh footprints in the snow matched Vari's shoes, the report said.
Vari was charged with attempted breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools, both misdemeanors.
Police said he confessed using the tools to try to remove the window.
