Man gets 6 months in jail, probation
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Hubbard man already has spent enough time in Mahoning County jail to satisfy the sentence he received for an arson conviction.
Steven A. Demidovich, 47, of Mount Everett Road, originally was charged with aggravated arson, but he pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of arson.
Demidovich, appearing before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, waived his right to a pre-sentencing investigation.
Assistant County Prosecutor Robert J. Andrews and defense Atty. Gary L. Van Brocklin both recommended a seven-month jail sentence.
Judge Sweeney sentenced Demidovich to six months, with credit for 212 days served, and placed him on probation for two years. In January 2005, Demidovich set fire to an abandoned church in Petersburg that had been converted to apartments. The building was vacant when the fire occurred, Andrews said.
