Mount Union'sWatson honored
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College senior cornerback Ross Watson, an Austintown native, has been named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-American team.
The prestigious team is comprised of 25 players and is selected by Div. III coaches.
Watson has 30 hits and a team-high nine interceptions this season, one pick shy of tying the Raiders' single-season mark of 10 held by Bruce Ensminger (1951) and Perry Bourn (1968). Watson is the lone returning starter from the Purple Raiders' last Stagg Bowl appearance (2003).
Mount Union (13-1) goes after is eighth national title Saturday when it battles Wisconsin-Whitewater (14-0) in the Stagg Bowl at Salem, Va. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Columbianato induct 7
COLUMBIANA -- Seven athletes will be inducted in the Columbiana High School Hall of Fame on Feb. 11.
The 10th class honored will included Ted Brookhart (1977), who competed for the Clippers in cross country, football, basketball and track.
Other inductees are: Don Esenwein (1947), football and basketball; Mike Florh (1979), football, basketball and track; Joe McPeek (1979), golf, wrestling and track; Brian Pearl Jr. (1988), football and wrestling; Monica Quattro Fitch (1986), volleyball and softball; and Wayne Urschler (1947), football and basketball.
The athletes will be introduced between the girls and boys games on Feb. 10 when the Clippers host Leetonia.
The induction dinner is set at Columbiana High School Commons on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale in January at a cost of $15.
Provonozacearns PAC honor
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College sophomore Anthony Prvonozac of Howland has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week after finishing in sixth place at Saturday's Ohio Northern University Invitational.
Prvonozac finished 2-1 at the invitational, losing by medical forfeit to Nick Sanchez of Heidelberg College in the fifth-place match at 141 pounds. Provonozac is 9-4 this season.
After a holiday break, Thiel will return to action on Jan. 13-14 at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College.

*NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Bethany senior Jenny Place (Badger) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week for the second consecutive time.
Place led the Bison (3-6) to a 70-67 victory over Frostburg State (Md.). The 5-8 guard-forward scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists.
*GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City will enshrine three former standouts into its men's swimming and diving Hall of Fame Jan. 14. The inductees are Scott Johnston (1955), Jamie Brunk (1976) and Patrick Kelley (1987).
*GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City senior Aaron Margo was selected American Football Coaches Association first team All-American defensive back.
A 6-foot-3, 205-pound safety, Margo led the Wolverines with 96 total tackles and 13 tackles for loss. He also had 4.5 quarterback sacks, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles while starting all 10 games.

Bogar namedAreos manager
CLEVELAND -- Former major league infielder Tim Bogar was hired by the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday to manage the club's Double-A affiliate in Akron.
Bogar replaces Torey Lovullo, who was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo's manager after leading the Aeros to the Eastern League title in 2005.
Former big league pitcher Scott Radinsky, who finished his 11-year career with the Indians in 2001, was named Akron's pitching coach. He filled the same role at Class A Lake County last season, his first as a coach in the Cleveland organization.
Felix Fermin, who played shortstop for Cleveland from 1989-93 and later scouted for the club, was named a coach at Akron. He had the same job at Buffalo last season.
Bogar, 39, spent the past two seasons managing Class A teams for the Houston Astros.
Fedorov to skipWinter Olympics
COLUMBUS -- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sergei Fedorov will not play for Russia in the Turin Olympics
Fedorov, a six-time NHL All-Star who turned 36 on Tuesday, said he needed the time to recuperate from a nagging injury and to adapt to his new team.
"I don't think it is appropriate to delay my decision about the Olympics any further," Fedorov said in a statement released through IMG, which handles his business affairs.
