Howland defeats Fitch for 5th win



HOWLAND -- The Howland High girls basketball team put its winning streak on the line -- and delivered.
The Tigers (5-0) cashed in on 20 of 33 free throws to post a 48-38 victory over Fitch in a non-league game on Tuesday.
Melissa Airhart paced Howland with 13 points and five steals. Alexa Williams added 12 points and five rebounds and Ellie Shields had 10 points.
Megan McDermott led the Falcons (4-2) with 10 points. Krista Mayes pulled down seven rebounds.
Oakland Catholic 57, Ursuline 49
YOUNGSTOWN -- Aysha Jones scored 11 of her 22 points in the first quarter when the Pittsburgh-area team jumped out to a 24-15 lead in the first meeting between the two teams.
For the Irish (1-3), Tyra Grant scored 12 of her 31 points in the first quarter and finished with six rebounds.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Kara Cooper had 13 points and eight steals to lead Youngstown Christian in an East Suburban Conference game.
Kara Pecchia had 12 points, Rachel Coristin had 10 and Beverly Young had 10 for Youngstown (3-1, 1-0). Vicki Bankhead had nine rebounds.
