Children's Museum plans event



YOUNGSTOWN --The Children's Museum of the Valley, 139 E. Boardman St., is hosting a a multicultural celebration of December holidays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Special activities will allow children to explore religious and cultural traditions from around the world. Children will participate in the following:
UMaking colorful Hanukkah dreidels.
UExploring Kwanzaa by creating Zawadi necklaces and drums.
UCreating Christmas wreaths.
UConstructing a St. Lucia's Day head wreath.
UMaking pi & ntilde;atas for Las Posadas, a Mexican Christmas custom.
ULearning about other holidays like Ramadan and Japanese New Year.
UDecorating boxes for Boxing Day, a British, Canadian and Australian celebration that encourages people to give to the needy.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors age 55 and over, and $3 for children. Those under age 3 and museum members are free.
People also are asked to take a canned or non-perishable item. Those who do will be entered into a drawing for a free family membership (current members will receive their next year free.) Canned items will be collected through Dec. 31. Those attending First Night Youngstown on Dec. 31 are invited to participate in this giving campaign as well.
