Victims' flag will fly in honor of 7-month-old

WARREN -- The victims' flag will fly in front of the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department and Warren Municipal Building in honor of a 7-month-old boy who died after an accidental shooting in his School Street home Dec. 3.
Miriam Fife, Trumbull County Common Pleas Court advocate, said the flag-raising was to take place today in honor of Adam Gunter, who was shot in the abdomen as he slept in his crib. He was the son of John Neal Gunter and Robin Thompson Gunter.
His brother, David E. Young, 19, of the same address, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, a fifth-degree felony, in connection with the death. He is out of jail on $100,000 surety bond.
A blast from a shotgun Young was handling penetrated a wall and struck the baby.
Detective Michael Krafcik said Young told police he was responsible for the shooting. Police then took him to the station and arrested him. Police had checked "yes" in a box labeled "alcohol influence" in the arrest section of the report.
The involuntary manslaughter charge carries a penalty of three to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $20,000. Unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance carries a six- to 12-month jail term and up to a $2,500 fine.
