Niehaus paces Western Reserve to 62-48 victory
McDonald and Lowellville also won league games.
BERLIN CENTER -- Saleena Niehaus, Western Reserve's lone senior, had 18 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and five assists to lead the Blue Devils past Sebring 62-48 in an Inter-County League girls basketball game on Monday.
Alex Rathburn added 11 points and Lainey Kekic had 10 points for Reserve (2-2, 1-0), which scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Ashley Amabeli had 13 points and Amanda Rockwall scored 12 for the Trojans.
McDonald 73, Mineral Ridge 38
MINERAL RIDGE -- McDonald (5-0) outscored the Rams 22-4 in the third quarter to take control.
McDonald out-shot Ridge from the field (27-15) and at the foul line, where the Blue Devils made 12 of 14 free throws to Ridge's 8 of 17. McDonald made seven 3s, including four from senior Ashleigh Tondo.
Sophomore Emily Dolsak had 22 points, Tondo had 19 and senior Amy Dolsak 16 for the winners. Senior forward Abbey Kiger had 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds for Ridge (1-4).
Lowellville 55, Jackson-Milton 31
LOWELLVILLE -- A balanced scoring attack and stingy defense were the keys to the Rockets' victory.
Jackson-Milton (4-2, 0-1) was limited to eight points in the first quarter, six in the third and seven in the fourth.
By halftime, Lowellville had built a 43-24 lead and the Bluejays couldn't recover.
Ali Grapevine scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace the Rockets (2-1, 1-0). Kristen Pallozzi chipped in with 11 points. Kaitlin McCarthy had 11 assists.
Jillian Adams led the Bluejays with nine points. Lowellville had a 31-26 rebounding advantage.
Crestview 78, Leetonia 18
COLUMBIANA -- Elyse Mongillo had 30 points, six rebounds and 10 assists and Chelsie McCall added 13 points and five steals for Crestview in the Tri-County League opener for both teams.
Chelsea Bowker had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Rebels (6-0, 1-0), while Brianne Phillis had eight points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Valerie Goerig scored eight points to lead Leetonia (2-2, 0-1), while Katie Grunick had five points and five rebounds.
Lisbon 54, United 39
HANOVERTON -- Erica Simms had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils.
Emily Smith scored 17 points for Lisbon (5-0, 1-0), which outscored United 23-4 in the second quarter. Caitlin Glenn added 11 points and five assists.
Danielle Ramus and Brittany Hoffmeister each scored 10 points for United (1-4, 0-1).
