YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior Independence will conduct a flu clinic at the Mahoning County Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.
Shots cost $29 for people ages 18 to 64. Medicare will be billed directly, but a receipt will be provided for people to seek reimbursement from all other insurance. Call (330) 744-5071.
2 teens face charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police charged two teenage boys with breaking and entering and vandalism after an officer driving past a six-plex apartment building at Glenwood and Parkcliff avenues Sunday afternoon noticed the structure's windows were being shattered.
The officer followed footprints through a door that had been pried and found the boys -- one a 13-year-old Volney Rogers Junior High pupil, the other a 14-year-old from Watkins Christian Academy -- hiding in a closet, holding large wooden handles, a police report says.
Officers found 52 windows shattered, as well as damage to window frames and walls, fixtures, banisters and handrails inside the building.
Man hurt in accident
WARREN -- An unidentified man is in St. Elizabeth Health Center with a severe head injury after the stolen car he was driving ran into a utility pole Sunday evening in the 1700 block of Burton Street Southeast. Firefighters extricated the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, after the single-vehicle accident, which occurred at 8:04 p.m. An ambulance took the victim, who had no identification, to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital then to St. Elizabeth. The car was reported stolen Sunday afternoon after its owner left it unlocked while warming it up in the driveway of her residence on Atlantic Street Northeast, police said.
House fire investigated
WARREN -- The cause of a weekend house fire at 1238 Grant St. S.E., is under investigation, the fire department said. Damage is estimated at $40,000 to the two-story wood frame house and $20,000 to its contents in the 9 p.m. Saturday fire. The house had four working smoke detectors, and there were no injuries. An adjacent structure at 1228 Grant had heat damage.
4 commit home invasion
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Richelieu Avenue man was treated for a large cut to his head after a home invasion. Police said the man was waiting for his girlfriend to return from work when two men and two women walked into his unlocked home at 2:20 a.m. Sunday. Police said the men pulled the cast iron covers off the stove and started beating the man. The 28-year-old victim told police he grabbed a knife and stabbed both men and they ran off. Police said they found a small amount of blood outside in the snow. It's unclear if anything was taken from the man's home.
Man hurt in 2-car crash
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Lawrence County man was in serious condition Monday night after a two-car crash this weekend on Pa. Route 18 and Ridgeview Avenue. Neshannock Township Police said John Kirkpatrick, 39, of Pulaski Road crossed the center line and crashed head on into a car driven by Carlee Zacharewski, 24, of Vine Street, New Castle, at 6:55 p.m. Saturday. Zacharewski and her two passengers, Richard Zacharewski, 53, and Noryne Zacharewski, 52, both of Vine Street, were treated at Jameson Hospital. Kirkpatrick was flow by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Police said Kirkpatrick will be cited for careless driving and a lane violation.
Wood tar causes fire
AUSTINTOWN -- A fireplace set a wall on fire in a township home, according to a fire department report.
The fire began at 5:47 a.m. Saturday at the home of Timothy Drummond, 5570 Madrid Drive. There were no injuries. The fire started because of a buildup of wood tar in the fireplace, said a firefighter at the scene.
