Chaney posts SVC win over Wilson; Harding triumphs

YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Jamie Soos had 18 points and eight assists to lead the Chaney High girls basketball team past Wilson 74-37 in a Steel Valley Conference game on Monday.
Junior Jasmyn Hopkins had 15 rebounds and junior Kayla May 12 rebounds for Chaney, which took a 25-12 lead after the first quarter.
Brittany Cobb added 10 points for the Cowboys, who took a 25-12 after one quarter.
Marcinde North and Lyeisha Dixon had 13 points apiece for Wilson.
Warren Harding 32,Warren JFK 29
WARREN -- Jahmarra Warfield paced a balanced attack for Harding (1-3, 1-1) with seven points.
Samantha Brice led the Eagles (3-2, 0-1) with 15 points.
Poland 56, Campbell 33
CAMPBELL -- Jessica Toth scored 20 points to lead Poland, which outscored the Red Devils 22-6 in the third quarter to put the game away. Katie Girts added eight points in the win.
Sophia Brown led Campbell (1-5) with 10 points.
Salem 60, Beaver Local 44
SALEM -- Zahra Scullion had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead Salem, which took a 21-8 halftime lead.
Leah Perry added 11 points and Natalie Davidson had eight.
Mallory Yajko led Beaver Local with 16 points.
Lakeview 69, Hubbard 43
CORTLAND -- Lindsay Whetzel scored 19 points to lead Lakeview, which used a 17-3 run in the second quarter to take a commanding 41-26 halftime lead in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Joanna Novotny added 11 points and Alynn Martin had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0).
Sheila Drummond led the Eagles (1-3, 0-1) with 15 points.
Champion 40, Newton Falls 29
CHAMPION -- In one of the early season's lowest first-quarter scores, Champion took a 4-2 lead.
At intermission, the Golden Flashes were ahead 21-14, then the schools each scored seven points in the third period.
Jaclyn Carpenter paced Champion (3-2, 1-0) in the TAC opener. She also had five assists.
Elizabeth Ghindia added 10 points and she pulled down 16 of her team's 34 rebounds.
Emily Montgomery led the Tigers (1-3, 0-1) with 15 points.
Liberty 59, LaBrae 28
LIBERTY -- The Leopards jumped out to a 14-2 lead and put the game out of reach 39-17 by the end of the third quarter.
Jessica White took scoring honors for the Leopards (3-2) with 17 points. Brianna Pettway added 10.
Angelica Pugh sparked the Tigers with 10 points.
Brookfield 39, Girard 24
BROOKFIELD -- Morgan Bonekovic scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Warriors.
Andrea Gladis and Kelly Jones each added seven points for Brookfield (5-0). Kari Haywood had five assists.
Brittany Palmer scored 10 points for the Indians (0-6).
Sharon 65, Mercer 24
MERCER -- The Tigers (4-1, 1-0) built a 42-4 halftime lead in the District 10, Region 1 game.
Brittany Csatlos paced the Tigers with 14 points, five assists and three steals.
Janine McDonald added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
