Record 52 points put up by Grant
ROCKY RIVER -- Following Tuesday's loss to New Castle, Ursuline coach Sean Durkin was a little worried his team would start the season with a long losing streak. Tyra Grant wouldn't let it happen.
The Irish senior forward scored a school-record 52 points as Ursuline outscored Magnificat 25-16 in Saturday's fourth quarter to win its first game of the season. "It was unbelievable," Durkin said of Grant's game. "It was the best performance I ever saw."
Grant, a Penn State recruit, shot 18 of 29 from the field -- making most of those from the perimeter, Durkin said -- and added 12 points at the line to shatter the previous school record of 40 set by Courtney Davidson, who's now at Michigan State.
"She just didn't miss," Durkin said. Grant also had 13 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for the Irish (1-2), while Megan Saccomen and Tiffani Miller each added five points. Dana Vinci scored 27 points and Stacy Haas had 15 points for Magnificat (2-2).
