Many families in need
COLUMBIANA -- Due to the large number of plant closings in the area this year, The Way Station has an overwhelming number of families in need of food for the holidays, Way Station officials said.
Needed are financial contributions, nonperishable food items, turkeys and hams for food baskets, and new clothes and toys for children.
Locks of Love haircuts
AUSTINTOWN -- Jackson-Milton High School and Casal Aveda Institute students are teaming up to help children who have lost their hair to cancer or other medical conditions that result in hair loss.
Casal Aveda Institute students will donate their time and skills at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Casal Aveda on Mahoning Avenue to give haircuts to 17 Jackson-Milton students.
These students have each grown their hair long enough so that at least 10 inches can be cut off for Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that makes hairpieces from human hair.

Fraternity loses status
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- A student panel has stripped a Penn State fraternity of its recognition after a hazing episode. The university said the hazing, which sent a student to Mount Nittany Medical Center for several days, involved new members. Further details were not available.
The Penn State student affairs board will not recognize the Delta Sigma chapter after Dec. 22 after what it called a ritualistic hazing last month.
The chapter was already on probation for several alcohol-related occurrences in the spring, Penn State spokesman Bill Mahon said.
The fraternity has until Dec. 19 to appeal the board's decision. But its alumni board had already decided to close the house at semester's end because of the hazing, Mahon said.
