Man convicted of molesting boy to sell 3 stations

$300,000 from the sale will be given to eight people involved in the case.
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) -- A longtime radio station owner convicted of molesting a 15-year-old boy and possessing child pornography will sell his three stations under a deal reached with the Lackawanna County district attorney and the Federal Communications Commission.
Bold Gold Media Group in Hawley has agreed to buy stations WWRR-FM and WICK-AM in Scranton and WYCK-AM in Plains Township from Douglas V. Lane for $1.9 million, First Assistant District Attorney Eugene M. Talerico Jr. said.
Lane, 62, was sentenced in October to 14 years and three months to 30 years in a state prison on charges of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, possession of child pornography and related counts.
'Creative approach'
Officials said that under the deal reached by Lane, the FCC and Lackawanna County, the county will distribute $300,000 from the sale to eight individuals involved in the case -- including some who said they were Lane's victims -- and several local nonprofit agencies that serve abused children.
The remaining money will go into an interest-bearing account pending Lane's appeal, and the county will keep the money if the conviction stands, Talerico said.
If Lane wins his appeal and the felony charges are dismissed, he would have a right to the money.
"This creative approach, which the district attorney and officials at the local and federal levels strongly support, promises significant relief to Lane's victims and benefits to residents of Lackawanna County," Peter H. Doyle, chief of the FCC's audio division media bureau, said in a statement.
