ERIE, Pa. -- Despite a strong showing from sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (Beaver Local), the Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 2-6 Friday night with a 71-52 loss at Penn State Behrend in the semifinals of the Behrend Winter Classic at the Junker Center.
McCoy led Grove City with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting, while sophomore guard Shannon Overdorff added 12 points and five steals. Julia Andrus led Behrend with 16 points.
Penn State Behrend (2-3) broke the game open with a 22-4 run at the start of the second half. The Lions, who led wire-to-wire, owned a 33-25 edge at the half.
Grove City will now play in today's consolation game against Buffalo State at 1 p.m. Buffalo State fell into the consolation game with a 73-67 loss to Thomas More.
Penn State-Johnstown 57,Slippery Rock 54
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Samantha Conner scored 16 points to lead three players in double figures for Penn State Johnstown.
Jessica Zapf had 14 points and Allison Krischer had 12 in the victory.
Jessica Schake and KellyAnn Staudinger each scored 11 points for The Rock (5-3), while Lowellville High graduate Amanda Nero had seven points.
Angela Greaser had nine points and Amanda Chojnacki scored six points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds for Slippery Rock, which was outscored 27-24 in the second half.
Amber McNeely had five points and tied for game-high honors with seven assists in the defeat.
