Lakeview rallies past Howland
Desmond Marrow hit two key free throws to lead Mooney.
CORTLAND -- Lakeview senior guard Eddie Mackiewicz stepped up big when it mattered most.
Mackiewicz scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds left to lift the Bulldogs (3-0) past visiting Howland 46-45 in a boys basketball game.
Mark Seger added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Lakeview, which trailed by 14 entering the final period. Dustin O'Palka added four assists.
Jared Bartholomew scored 17 points to lead the Tigers (0-2). Tony Pozega added 12.
Salem 69, United 35
SALEM -- The Quakers put the game out of reach with a 40-11 halftime lead.
Tom Jesko sparked Salem with 11 points and four assists. Ryan Benchwick finished with 10 points.
Dan Shaffer led the Golden Eagles with 12 points, all 3-pointers.
Mooney 48, Poland 46
POLAND -- Desmond Marrow made a pair of crucial free throws in the final 11 seconds for the Cardinals.
Marrow made one of two foul shots to give Mooney a 47-44 lead with 11 seconds remaining. Chris Lovell of the Bulldogs (1-2) connected with five seconds left but Marrow made one of two at the line to seal the game.
Jaren Howell took scoring honors for the Cardinals with 23 points. Marrow added 10.
Louis Coppola and Dom Schneider paced the Bulldogs with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Campbell 70, Chaney 61
CAMPBELL -- Chaney fell behind 22-12 but recovered to stay in the game until Campbell pulled away in the last six minutes.
Terrance Phillips had 19 points, Jermaine Robinson 17 and Ryan Burton 14 for Campbell (3-0).
Dominique Peake had a season-high 22 points and the 6-1 senior forward also grabbed eight rebounds for Chaney, which pulled within one point with 6 1/2 minutes remaining.
Antonio Fitzgerald added 18 points for the Cowboys (0-3), who made just 2 of 17 3-pointers.
Warren JFK 68, Champion 48
CHAMPION -- Tashawn Walker scored 22 points to lead Kennedy.
Marc Rossi added 12 points for the Eagles, while Nick Moody and Desmar Jackson each had eight.
Mark Jackson led Champion with 20 points.
North Canton 77, Rayen 27
NORTH CANTON -- Junior Barry Shetzer had 22 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists for Hoover.
Sophomore J.D. Elder added 16 points, while senior Joe Mariarty had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Vikings (2-0).
Senior Matt Gordon led Rayen (1-2) with seven points and three rebounds.
Boardman 65, Wilson 36
BOARDMAN -- Twelve players shared the scoring load for the Spartans (2-1).
John Kocon scored 14 points and Andrew Chifolo had 11 points as Boardman jumped out to a 40-17 lead at the break.
Justin Maxwell and William Johnson each scored 11 points for the Redmen (0-2).
Ledgemont 60, Yo. Christian 54
THOMPSON -- After falling behind 12-0, Youngstown Christian cut its deficit to two after three periods before losing the East Suburban Conference opener.
Sophomore forward Ed Gonda had a career-high 19 points while David Colbert added 10. Colbert, a 6-3 sophomore, also had three blocked shots.
Joe O'Donnell's 15 points paced Ledgemont.
