Crestview tops Clippers 64-45 in TCL opener



COLUMBIANA -- In a game that lasted one hour and thirty five minutes, included 45 fouls and 66 free throws, the Crestview High girls basketball team pulled away to beat Columbiana 64-45 in the Tri-County League opener for both teams.
Crestview (5-0) made 30 of 41 from the line, including an impressive 13 straight from Chelsea Bowker, a freshman starter who had 17 point and nine rebounds. Senior Brianne Phillis added 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Elyse Mongillo added 14 points and seven assists for the Rebels (5-0, 1-0), who took a 33-23 halftime lead. The Rebels shot 30 of 41 from the free throw line, compared to 12 of 25 for the Clippers.
Kristina Davidson scored 11 points and Krista Johnson added nine for Columbiana (2-2, 0-1).
"It absolutely took us out of our game plan," said Clipper coach Wayne Johnson of the fouls. "Right from the first quarter we had to be less agreesive. The foul trouble took the edge out of us and it took us out of our defense."
Western Reserve 62, United 41
HANOVERTON -- Macy Marra had 19 points and five steals while Alex Rathburn added 15 points and 10 rebounds to spark Western Reserve (1-2) on Thursday. Saleena Niehauf added 10 points and six assists.
Allison Graham had 12 points and Darlene Woolf 10 to pace United.
