Control board approves arena purchases
YOUNGSTOWN -- The city's board of control approved the purchase of up to $120,825 in equipment, furniture and fencing for the city-owned Chevrolet Centre.
All but one of the purchases are for additional items to existing equipment and furniture.
The other was to purchase a chain-link fence for the facility's back entrance used by entertainers and acts at the building. The contract went to Harmon Fence Co. of Warren, which submitted the lowest of three bids for the work: $33,360.
The board Thursday also approved a $179,335 design contract with MS Consultants. The Youngstown company will design the realignment and reconstruction of about 2,000 linear feet of Division Street Extension. The city is using state funds for the design work.
The street is on the North Side near Brier Hill and is used by V & amp;M Star and companies in the city-owned Ohio Works Industrial Park.
The street's surface needs to be replaced, has poor sewer drainage, and is too narrow and winding, said Carmen S. Conglose Jr., the city's deputy director of public works.
The improvement work would cost about $1.6 million.
