GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Six Thiel players finished in double figures, knocked down 14 three-pointers and shot 49.3 percent from the field. The Tomcats (2-4) were led by senior forward Damien Williams' 19 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Ross Watson added 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while senior forward Stephen Laird added 18 points and six-of-seven shooting, including four-of-four from three-point range. Junior forward Brad Bowman (Youngstown/Ursuline) totaled 13 points and four rebounds and freshman guard James Beedle (McDonald) added 13 points and six assists. Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Tomcats will return to action on Saturday when they host La Roche College at Beeghly Gym. Tip off is at 3 p.m.
Geneva 62, Grove City 59
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior forward Mark Smith led Grove City with a season-high 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds but the Wolverines lost to NAIA Geneva. Grove City had possession twice in the final 10 seconds but could not convert. The Wolverines turned the ball over with four seconds left and following a Bam Harmon free throw, a half-court attempt by sophomore guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fell short at the buzzer. Harmon and Kyle McDermott led Geneva (5-4) with 14 points each. The Wolverines will visit Case Western Reserve Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
