Brookfield's unbeaten streak stretches out to four games
Morgan Bonekovic scored 14 points to lead a 32-28 win over Maplewood.
CORTLAND -- Although it put only four players in the scoring column, the Brookfield High girls basketball team edged Maplewood, 32-28, Thursday in the Warriors' gymnasium to remain undefeated.
The Warriors (4-0) fell behind 20-16 at halftime and rallied with a 12-5 surge in the third quarter and went on to post the victory.
Morgan Bonekovic scored 14 points to pace the Warriors. Andrea Gladies grabbed seven rebounds and Kari Haywood had three assists.
Leah Dean led the Rockets with 12 points and Kristen Schwartz finished with 11.
Lisbon 58, South Range 42
LISBON - The Blue Devils (4-0), ahead 30-29 at intermission, broke open the game in the third quarter with a 20-6 surge.
Emily Smith, who had five steals, and Eric Sims, who pulled down 12 rebounds, sparked Lisbon with 22 and 20 points respectively. Eric Snoody had five assists. Heather Stacy paced the Raiders (2-2) with 13 points. Cindy Schuler added 11.
Howland 92, Chaney 33
YOUNGSTOWN -- The unbeaten Tigers (4-0) put four girls in double figures and put the contest out of reach by halftime 49-20.
Carley Savet triggered the Tigers' attack with 25 points. Melissa Airhart, Ellie Shield and Danielle added 15, 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Jamie Soos led the Cowboys with nine points. Jasmyn Hopkins pulled down seven rebounds.
Jackson-Milton 62, Mathews 55
JACKSON-MILTON -- With the score tied 41-41, Megan Whitmer scored 12 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bluejays to victory. Elizabeth Hughes added 13 points.
Lauren Roscoe led the Mustangs with 15 points. Sophie Paddock and Sarah King finished with 13 and 10.
Pymatuning Valley 37, Mineral Ridge 24
MINERAL RIDGE -- Mineral Ridge couldn't solve Pymatuning Valley's stingy defense and trailed 31-16 after three quarters.
Susanna Hanies sparked the winners with 14 points and Michelle Lutanen added 12.
Abbey Kiger paced the Rams (1-3) with nine points and two steals. Rachael Siler grabbed 10 rebounds.
Struthers 53, Champion 38
WARREN -- Ashley Galbraith scored 18 points and Liz Valerio added 16 as Struthers rolled past Champion.
The Wildcats improved to 3-1.
Champion (2-2) was led by Jacki Carpenter with 15 points and Elizabeth Ghinida with 10.
McDonald 70, Heartland Christian 22
McDONALD -- Ashleigh Tondo poured in 24 points while Emily Dolsak added 15 and eight rebounds, to lead McDonald (4-0).
Tomisa Sangregorio chipped in with 10 points and Amy Dolsak nine rebounds and five points to reinforce the Blue Devils.
Amanda Griffith had six points for Heartland Christian.
Mooney 41, Warren Harding 15
YOUNGSTOWN -- Alex Woytek and Danielle Daltorio each scored eight points to lead Cardinal Mooney (1-1) in a game played Wednesday.
KaMela Bender had six points for Harding (0-3).
Youngstown Christian 51, East Palestine 38
EAST PALESTINE -- Kara Cooper poured in 27 points while Rachel Coristin added 12 with 14 rebounds to lead Youngstown Christian (2-1).
Danielle Pecchia chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds to aid the winners.
Samantha DiCello tallied 19 points to lead East Palestine (0-2), while Adyson Moscher contributed 11.
