Rayen needs overtime to post first win
The Tigers defeated Slippery Rock behind Matt Gordon's 13 points, 61-57.
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Rayen School senior Matt Gordon had 13 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lead the visiting Tigers past Slippery Rock 61-57 in overtime in a boys basketball game Tuesday.
Sophomore Jamayle Roland added 12 points, three rebounds and three assists for Rayen (1-1), while seniors Justin Queener and Troy Rice each had 10 points.
Billy Stoughton had 17 points and David Hewitt added 16 for Slippery Rock.
Brookfield 81, Mathews 67
VIENNA -- Brookfield's Cory Richards scored 10 of his 28 points in the second quarter as the Warriors outscored Mathews 27-8 in that period to take control.
Josh Harkulich added 21 points and five steals for the Warriors, while Ryan Logan added nine. Richards also had 12 rebounds.
West Branch 61, Southeast 54
BELOIT -- Kyle Rockwell scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Warriors held off Southeast in a non-league game.
The Pirates (1-1) took a one-point lead in the third quarter before the Warriors rebounded to take a 10-point lead. Steve McNeely added 12 points and Shane Young had 10 for the Warriors (2-0).
Micah Herndon had 22 points and Frank Locher had 18 for the Pirates.
