Trustees await election recount
CHAMPION -- Township trustees are awaiting a complete recount of votes from the Nov. 8 election that will determine if incumbent Keith Bowser will serve another term or Thomas Tracey or Bob Farmer will take his place.
The tallies were only a few votes apart, triggering an automatic recount by the Trumbull County Board of Elections. The recount should be finalized around Dec. 18, Bowser said.
Bowser extended his thanks and appreciation to the community at Monday night's trustee meeting where he was presented with a plaque of appreciation from Fire Chief Lewis Austin.
Austin reported that he and Trustee Timothy Downs bought drop ceilings and high intensity light fixtures, steel doors, office chairs and filing cabinets at LaBrae High School's recent auction for a cost of about $1,850.
Police Chief Dennis Steinbeck's officers completed a software course on homeland security last month, and juvenile officer Kelly Boyle, who works with the Champion schools, has started a program with the Key Club members at the high school. The students will shovel snow for the senior citizens on a list of the elderly that the police department checks weekly. The chief said seniors who want to be on the watch list, or who need help shoveling their drives this winter should contact the police department.
Trustees will meet again at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 28 to wrap up any unfinished business for the year.
