Brown hits 16 points in Campbell victory; Canfield, Fitch win
She scored 16 points as the Red Devils beat Wilson, 57-26.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sophia Brown scored a season-high 16 points to lead Campbell Memorial High to a 57-26 win over Woodrow Wilson Monday night.
Campbell won its first game after three consecutive losses.
Wilson (0-2) was called for 35 turnovers and fell behind 28-13 at the break.
Bethany Katapich scored 11 points for the Redmen (0-2).
Canfield 59, Lakeview 45
CORTLAND -- The Cardinals' defense limited the Bulldogs to 17 points in the first half in building a 28-17 lead by intermission, then cruised to their second win in three outings.
Kate Popovec triggered the Canfield attack with 19 points. Bryanne Halfhill added 17 and Melissa West had 10.
Chelsea Butler paced Lakeview (1-2) with 17 points and she pulled down nine of her teams' 38 rebounds. Lindsay Whetzel finished with 10 points and Alynn Martin had four assists and four steals.
Fitch 42, Girard 27
GIRARD -- Krista Mayes had nine points and Courtney Williams added eight to pace Austintown Fitch (3-0).
Sarroya Townsend had 11 points for Girard (0-4).
Champion 42, Niles 33
NILES -- Elizabeth Ghindia had 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead Champion past Niles.
Champion is 2-1.
Kelly Leonard had 15 points and Stephanie Parish 11 to pace Niles (1-2).
Brookfield 43, Rayen 32
BROOKFIELD -- The Warriors stayed unbeaten (3-0) as they put two girls in double figures. Andrea Gladis and Morgan Bonekovic scored 12 points each.
Brittney Taylor took scoring honors for the Tigers with 19 points.
Lowellville 52, Struthers 30
LOWELLVILLE -- A balanced scoring attack and stingy defense was the key to the Rockets (1-1) in handing the Wildcats (2-1) their first loss of the season.
Jacque Schrader, Kaitlin McCarthy, and Ali Grapevine sparked the Rockets with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Grapevine had 11 rebounds, while McCarthy had six assists and six steals.
Ashley Galbrich led Struthers with 12 points and nine rebounds Halle Minchin-Skook finished with 11 points.
Salem 45, GlenOak 35
SALEM -- The Quakers (1-1) rallied for 19 points in the third quarter as they came from behind to get past Canton GlenOak (1-2).
Zahra Scullion sparked the Quakers with 16 points and she pulled down nine rebounds. Kelly Roelen Kelly added nine points.
